Description
Map of Norwich published in 1766. The Heraldry of the Dean of Norwich, the Bishop of Norwich, and the Arms of the City of Norwich in the top right corner. Illustrations of some main buildings are included, including the Guild Hall (top left), the South East Prospect of the Castle (bottom middle), the South West Prospect of the Cathedral (bottom right), the Theatre (above the Cathedral), the Assembly House (above the theatre), and the New Chapel in St. Georges (above the Assembly House). On the left side there is a list of numerical references of churches and their names, from 1 to 36, each of which is located on the map. In the bottom left is a bordered box with text, the title of which is: The City and County of Norwich, which outlines the governance of Norwich. Next to this, outside the box and above the illustration of the Castle, is an exact location of the city in reference to London, and the days of its markets. Text the bottom of the map reads: 'Printed for and Sold by Sam. "King Sen.", near Charing Crofs [sic] & Sam "King Jun." the Corner of Grange Court Clements Lane Clare Market London.'
